BOTOX, short for Botulinum Toxin, is a neurotoxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. BOTOX is FDA approved to reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. One of the causes of lines and wrinkles is repeated facial movements and muscle contractions. When injected into specific muscles, BOTOX blocks nerve signals, temporarily freezing the muscles and preventing them from contracting. This diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines for a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

What to Expect During Your BOTOX Appointment

Each patient’s individual experience will vary, but you can expect a treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals.

Preparing for BOTOX

Before your BOTOX treatment, you’ll have a chance to discuss your concerns and goals with Dr. Hartline. You can also get answers to any questions about BOTOX and learn more about your treatment options. There is little to no preparation needed, but you may be advised to stop taking blood-thinning medications or drinking alcohol in the days before your BOTOX appointment.

Your BOTOX Treatment

The actual BOTOX treatment is very quick and performed in-office. Dr. Hartline will cleanse the area to be treated and, if needed, apply a topical anesthetic. She will then carefully inject an ultra thin needle to strategically place the BOTOX injections.

BOTOX Recovery

While you may want to avoid very strenuous exercise or activities for about 24 hours, there is no recovery time after BOTOX—you can get right back to your normal day. Depending on your level of skin sensitivity and predisposition to bruising, you may notice mild and temporary swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection site.

BOTOX Results

Optimal BOTOX results will be visible just a few days after treatment. Results last up to 4 months and can be repeated as needed to maintain a youthful look.

BOTOX Lip Flip

Dr. Hartline offers BOTOX Lip Flip, which is an innovative procedure that utilizes BOTOX to enhance the lips. When injected into the upper lip muscles, BOTOX relaxes them and causes the lip to gently roll outward, creating the appearance of a fuller upper lip without the need for dermal fillers. This technique can be a good choice for those seeking a subtle enhancement to their lips without the commitment or potential side effects associated with lip fillers. Additionally, since BOTOX temporarily paralyzes the muscles, it can also help reduce the visibility of fine lines around the mouth, providing a dual benefit for achieving a youthful and refreshed appearance.

BOTOX for Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

In addition to cosmetic benefits, BOTOX is also used for several medical purposes. One of the most common medical uses of BOTOX is BOTOX for hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes excessive sweating. BOTOX works to block the signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands. By injecting BOTOX into specific areas such as the underarms, palms, or soles of the feet, this procedure effectively reduces sweat production, offering relief for individuals struggling with hyperhidrosis. Dr. Hartline offers BOTOX to help patients with excessive sweating find improved confidence and greater ease with daily activities.
